President Biden has declared an emergency in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.President has directed Federal assistance to supplement Commonwealth and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions caused by Tropical Storm Fiona. Assistance started from September 17, 2022, and will continue.
The President’s action authorises the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate all relief efforts .
FEMA’s goal is to alleviate the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, as well as to provide assistance for necessary emergency measures.
The Stafford Act authorises emergency measures in order to save lives and protect property. It also provides for public health and safety, as well as reducing or eliminating the threat of a disaster in all 78 municipalities throughout the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
