5G is an innovation platform. Ericsson Startup 5G connects leading communication service providers (CSPs) with the right consumer innovation partners to accelerate 5G commercialization and monetization.
Ericsson Startup 5G has global demand and application cases. Rogers Communications (Canada) and Celcom Axiata (Malaysia) have successfully used Ericsson 5G solutions to differentiate their 5G offerings and accelerate 5G monetization.
In India, Ericsson has signed a long-term strategic 5G collaboration with Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. (Jio), an Indian communications service provider (CSP), to roll out 5G Standalone (SA) in the country which is expected to boost innovation and create 5G ecosystem capable of delivering advanced services.
The announcement follows the recent allocation of 5G spectrum in India’s auctions.
In Jio’s 5G network, Ericsson’s energy-efficient 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) products and solutions (from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio) and E-band microwave mobile transport solutions will be deployed.
According to Ericsson Research, 5G is already paving the way to the metaverse. The report examines the behavioural changes brought about by communications service providers’ inclusion of digital services in 5G plans, particularly the increased use of enhanced video and augmented reality (AR) apps.
The study interviewed over 49,000 consumers in 37 countries, making it the largest global 5G-related consumer survey in the industry to date and the largest consumer survey conducted by Ericsson on any topic. The survey sample represents the views of approximately 1.7 billion consumers worldwide, including 430 million 5G subscribers.
According to the findings, at least 510 million consumers across 37 markets are likely to adopt 5G by 2023.
