Since 2019, Ardian’s Data Science and IT teams have worked closely with its portfolio airport teams to develop Ardian AirCarbon, which supports the Scope 3 emissions dynamic assessment at airports where the infrastructure team invests.
The platform quantifies and projects emissions using detailed, real-time operating data. This allows airport to better monitor and minimise CO2 emissions.
Scope 3 is projected to account for more than 95% of an airport’s emissions since it includes all indirect emissions produced by aircraft landing, takeoff, and taxiing, as well as airport ground vehicles.
The technology is presently deployed in five airports around Europe, with a total of 59 million annual travellers.
The software also follows the suggested approach of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), a global certification programme for airport carbon management.
Ardian AirCarbon has previously been utilised by airports to achieve significant sustainability and net-zero reporting goals. For example, in 2024, Milan’s SEA airports employed Ardian AirCarbon for certificate renewal for ACA 4+ accreditation for the current fiscal year. This was the first time an airport used the technology to submit half-cruise flight emissions to the ACA.
The platform’s purpose is to serve as a tool for the whole airport ecosystem, assisting the aviation industry in reaching net-zero.
