According to Apple, the App Store stopped over $2 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions in 2022 and rejected approximately 1.7 million app applications for not upholding the App Store’s strict guidelines for content, privacy, and security.
Apple has implemented a number of initiatives throughout the years to foster an ecosystem that benefits both consumers and developers. As a result, the App Store has become an innovative platform that receives over 650 million visits per week on average from users all over the world and offers over 36 million registered Apple developers a platform for international distribution that supports over 195 local payment methods and 44 different currencies.
Last year, Apple removed 282,000 user accounts and 428,000 developer accounts due to fraud and misuse.
Apple has developed its systems over time to continually monitor and swiftly identify account fraud. Apple cancelled more than 802,000 developer accounts in 2021 due to allegedly fraudulent conduct. Thanks in part to improved techniques and policies that enable the App Store to stop the establishment of possibly fake accounts, that number fell to 428,000 in 2022. Additionally, about 105 million applications to the Apple Developer Programme were turned down due to alleged fraud, stopping these dishonest developers from submitting their programmes to the App Store.
Nearly 57,000 shady applications from illegal storefronts, which lack the same built-in privacy and security precautions as the App Store, were shielded from customers by Apple in 2022.
